How to brief a travel UGC creator

A good brief takes 15 minutes and saves days of back-and-forth. It doesn’t need to be long. It needs to answer the questions below.

By Chris, That Traveler Guy™: trilingual travel & hospitality UGC creator, 103 countries. · Updated October 2026

The checklist

  1. Goal: bookings, awareness, a launch, a season or new ad creative?
  2. Audience: who are your ideal guests or customers, and where are they from?
  3. Key message: the one thing people should remember
  4. Deliverables: how many videos and photos, and in which formats
  5. Must-have shots: rooms, dishes, experiences or products that can’t be missed
  6. Languages: English, Spanish, French or a mix
  7. Usage: your channels only, or paid ads too, and for how long
  8. Timing: visit dates and when you need the final files
  9. Approvals: who reviews the content, and your brand guidelines
  10. Budget range, if you have one: it helps shape the right proposal

What to leave to the creator

Share the goal and the must-haves, then leave room for the creator’s eye. Overly scripted UGC stops feeling like UGC, and the authenticity is what makes it work.
